산호세의 한인회가 생긴것은 샌프란시스코에 비해 인구가 느는데 샌프란시스코 지부가 아닌 산호세 한인회 결성의 필요성이 있었기 때문이다.이에 1973년 2월 20일 산타클라라 교민회가 결성되어 회장은 김승은 부회장에는 최주남과 이춘희가 맡았다. 7월 22일 심승운 회장의 사퇴로 신해선이 직무대리를 맡아 수고하였다.산호세 한인회는 1977년 샌프란시스코에 거주하던 전 김용백 한인회장과 오재근, 김동옥 전 동아일보 지사장 등이 산호세에 거주하는 김성인, 윤발현, 장기철, 장팔기, 신돈식, 황규철 등 여러 명과산호세 한인회의 필요성을 논의 하고 산호세 측이 강력히 주장한 끝에 만들어졌다. 그러나 산호세에는 이미 산타클라라 한인모임이 따로 있어 다시 그들과 합의해 이사로 영입하는 등 각고의 노력 끝에 산호세 한인회가 다시 만들어졌다.  

 

산호세 한인회가 탄생부터 교민에게 어떤 방법으로든 도움과 즐거움을 주기까지는 역대 회장과 이사장등 각 임원들의 수고가 있었기 때문이다.당시 한인회 일을 하던 사람들은 밤에 일을 나가거나 두개의 직장에 다니는 등 어려운 가운데도, 유학생들을 도우려고 헌 차를 구해주고 밥을 먹여주며, 이민의 직장 알선을 위해 바쁜 시간을 쪼개어 이리저리 뛰었다. 실제로 많은 교민들도 적극적으로 참여해 서로에게 도움을 주었다. 도움을 받은 사람들은 잊기 어려울 것이고, 도움을 준 사람들은 그들이 잘 사는 것을 보면 뿌듯하리라고 본다.

 

1980년 한인회 주최로 처음 '한인의 밤'을 했을 때를 감격스럽게 기억하는 사람들이 많은 것이다. 한인 인구가 만 명이 될까 말싸하던 시기에 1400명이나 되는 한인들이 한자리에 모여, 고국에서 온 가수들의 노래를 듣고 향수에 젖으며 한인회 주최 측에 고마워했던 일이다. 사람들은 10달러, 20달러, 50달러 등 자발적으로 찬조금을 내며, 그런 행사로 고국에 대한 그리움을 달래 준것에 대해 고마움을 표했다.

On February 20, 1973, the Santa Clara Korean American Association(SCKAA) was formed by President Kim Seung-

eun, Vice President Choi Joo-nam, and Chun-hee Lee. On July 22, 1973, Kim Seung-eun resigned, and Shin

Hae-sun took charge of his office. Because the Korean American population was greater in San Jose than in San

Francisco, the Korean American community discussed the need to organize the San Jose community as a group

apart from the San Francisco branch. With the help of the SCKAA and their community leaders acting as board of

directors, the San Jose Korean American Association (SJKAA) was organized. The San Jose, and Santa Clara Korean

American Associations became one under a new name: Silicon Valley Korean American Federation (SVKAF).

Since the birth of the SVKAF, past presidents and chief executive officers did their best to provide help and support

the Korean American community. Many leaders would work two jobs, night and day, to help local and international

students financially and build networking relationships for internships. Many members also actively participated in

helping each other. Those who helped are proud to see the students and the Korean community grow and will always

be remembered for their giving hearts.

'Korean Night,' the very first performance sponsored by the SVKAF in 1980, is still remembered by many. The Korean

population wasn’t great at the time, even so, around 1,400 people gathered together in one place to listen to

the songs of Korean singers. Many people voluntarily donated $10, $20, and $50, thanking and appreciating the

organizers of SVKAF for filling the night with nostalgia for their country.

The Silicon Vally Korean American Foundation has already grown to it's 19th presidency since the birth of the

San Jose Korean American Association.
